Private Tuition: Kip McGrath Education Centre - Peterborough
Company Profile / Additional InformationHi - I am an experienced, passionate classroom teacher who is currently providing students (6-16yrs) around the Peterborough region with affordable individualised tuition in maths, English and the sciences. I think I can offer something completely unique to what the traditional 'home tutor' can provide and over the past 18 months or so, have developed a learning centre in the heart of Peterborough that has grown in reputation and the delivery of real results to those who have attended. I welcome an opportunity to discuss my unique approach and am more than happy to provide many suitable testimonials/references.
I have been teaching within classroom environments since the mid 1990's - have considerable experience across all age ranges from primary through to GCSE level - both in mainstream and specialist school environments. I have also taught in the Australian school system for a number of years. My interest in special needs provision has had me working in Pupil Referrral Units designed for those students unable to engage with the mainstream curriculum. I still occassionally work within schools (a personal choice of mine) in order to maintain a sense of what classroom life is all about and not to get too caught up in my own little world! As I have been increasingly busy at my centre, I have found less and less time to devote to classroom teaching. On the plus side, I feel what I now do is the dream of most teachers - teach, without distraction, and being able to truly cater for individual needs.
I provide 1 to 1 tuition in a small social setting focused on raising standards in a welcoming, relaxed and motivating environment for all. After a free, no obligation initial assessment, each student receives an individualised programme and full attention from myself each visit. I am a firm believer in ensuring each student grows in confidence along the way. One way to ensure this is that I do not sit next to them throughout the duration of the session (traditional home tuition), rather teach them, give them appropriate space to work whilst I constantly monitor and re-teach as appropriate. We use whiteboards, unique software and written materials as appropriate. I carefully place students into small, manageable groups and whilst they work completely separately through their own programme, there may be opportunities for positive interaction with others. eg- "Hey George, can you quickly show Abdul how you solved that equation using method...etc." My approach is never to 'spoon feed' and I adapt my teaching style to the young person involved - from those who choose to work quietly within themselves, to those who may welcome something a little more interactive and 'hands on'. I have a variety of outstanding teaching resources at my disposal - most are completly unique to my centre, others are perhaps more exam board specific. Combined with excellent teaching, they have been proven to be extremely successful in raising standards. I am a firm believer that qualifications (by themselves) do not necessarily equate to producing fantastic results and believe I am only as good as my last session with the students! As this is my business, I am highly motivated to ensuring each student receives the very best available each session - week in, week out. I am well aware of dozens of 'tutors' elsewhere at your disposal! I currently am heavily involved with all of my students from planning each session, teaching them and feeding back to their parents as well as contacting schools as necessary. In addition, I have fantastic, suitably qualified teaching assistants who also have their part to play in ensuring all sessions run smoothly and that all needs are successfully catered for. If, from time to time, I require any additional teacher, for any particular reason, you can be assured they are suitably qualified, CRB cleared and working extremely closely with myself. Our sessions typically run for 80 minutes and due to our OFSTED status, working parents may be able to claim a reduction of their child's tuition fees. All books and stationery are provided.
