Private Tuition: Darren Marshall - London

My specialist subject area is Art, in which I have a 1st Class BA Hons Degree from the Glasgow School of Art, and an MA Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art. I currently teach part-time at the Claremont Project in Islington, as well as for a private group also in Islington.

I have more than four years’ experience of teaching at different levels, most recently working in adult education. My work with New Contemporaries also keeps me in direct contact with the working methods and ideas of degree and masters degree level students. Other experiences, such as a year long residency at The British School in Rome on a painting scholarship, have also contributed to my enthusiasm for engaging students and people from a wide range of backgrounds and age groups in artistic practice. The art classes I have taught have covered a broad range of subjects, from drawing and paintings skills, to collage, backdrop painting, and linocut printing.

I am also a practicing fine artist, specialising in painting and drawing. I have more than 15 years of continuous studio experience, arranging peer critiques, organising exhibitions, working with galleries, and exhibiting in the UK and abroad. These experiences have given me a broad understanding of the formal, historical, conceptual, and contextual approaches to, and issues around making art.

All of the classes I have arranged and taught so far have proved highly popular, with the organisers or institutions asking me back for further courses, students signing up for more projects, and recommendations leading to other teaching positions, as with the Cubitt/Claremont position, for which I was recommended by Islington Arts Factory. I have an Enhanced Disclosure CRB Certificate.

I can offer a breadth of experience, and a passion for art and teaching.
