I have worked until recently (2009) as a University Professor in Arts and Cultural Studies. Since 1997 I have published several books and articles on English and Media which are standard set study texts. I have served as an Examiner and University Admissions Tutor.
I have also worked in the business sector as a Media/Communications Consultant and as the Director of an International Film Production Company.
I hold a First Class Honours degree in English Language and Literature (University of St Andrews) and a Doctorate in Culture of the Enlightenment (University of Leeds).
I am based in Birmingham in the West Midlands and has been described as friendly, patient, sympathetic and approachable.
I have undertaken teaching and training in Schools (Primary and Secondary) and in the University Sector (to postgraduate level) over a period of twenty-five years. During that period I have worked with very gifted students as well as children and adults who have needed special support in order to reach their full potential. My specialist areas are English Language and Literature; Media and Communications; Study, Exam and Revision Skills.
My teaching is always adapted to the specific needs of the learner and is informed by critical and creative strategies that have a proven track record.
I work in partnership with potential students in order to identify the learner's most urgent needs and and the goals to be achieved. Together we address issues of motivation and the acquisition of key subject study skills. The process builds on creative strategies for self-improvement which leads to enhanced enjoyment and success.
